AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should
- have increased skills in writing scholarly texts,
- have knowledge of adult learning and popular education from an international perspective,
- have an increased ability to experience and analyse the surrounding world, based on the concepts of interculturalism, identity and globalisation,
- have an increased awareness of how global processes affect family, school, society, working life and cultural life
- be able to apply knowledge to an increased ability to examine, plan and create conditions for inter-cultural educational work.
CONTENTS
By completing this course, the students should develop their knowledge of inter-cultural views on knowledge and learning from individual, institutional and social perspectives.
Learning, Ethnicity and Cultural Exchange in a Globalized World, 15 HE credits. Lärande, etnicitet och kulturmöten i en globaliserad värld. The course covers knowledge development in and knowledge exchange between different cultures seen from individual, interpersonal, structural and international perspectives. The focus is on adult learning and popular education, with consideration to cultural and ethnic identity.

Scientific Theories and Research Methods in a Culturally Comparative Perspective, 7.5 HE credits.
Vetenskapsteori och forskningsmetodik i ett kulturellt jämförande perspektiv. The course mainly covers participatory and action-based research methods with international comparisons of the use of such methods in relation to different problems and issues.

Project Work Focused on Intercultural and Identity Building Education, 7.5 HE credits.
Projektarbete med inriktning på interkulturellt och identitetsskapande bildningsarbete. With one's own and others' educational experiences as well as a number of chosen issues and adequate theory as a basis, a project work is carried out, reviewed and critically assessed at a final review.
TEACHING
The course is offered as a distance course with recurring seminars on each country. During and between the seminars, the students work in small groups with analysis and written assignments, on the basis of independent literature studies and field studies with experience and analysis assignments. The seminar sessions consist of lectures, group work and independent reflection and, to the extent possible, popular cultural expressions with important inter-cultural contents are utilised. Strong emphasis is placed on comparative studies, through cooperation between students from different cultural environments. Each participant carries out an individual assignment that is documented, presented and discussed in the course.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through written and oral presentations of the prescribed assignments, individually and in groups. Active participation in the seminars is required.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Passing grade in Intercultural Pedagogy, Identity and Globalization, (basic course) 30 HE credits, or the equivalent (Regarded as equivalent is, e.g., pedagogy studies comprising at least 30 HE credits, combined with documented expertise in cultural exchange issues.)
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
