AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- account for causes, process and consequences of the largest financial crises through history
- discuss differences and similarities between different financial crises
- account for the economic and sociological mechanisms that lead to economic crime
- discuss the relationship between attitudes (culture), regulatory framework, the intentions of those in control and the extent and damage of economic crime.
CONTENTS
The course covers financial crises and economic crime from a socioeconomic and historical perspective. Both financial crises and economic crime are extreme events that have considerable socioeconomic costs. The drop in production in connection with larger bank crises has been between 5 and 15 percent of the GDP, while the black market in certain countries amounts to 20 percent of the GDP. The course also covers the extent to which these phenomena are linked to one another. The first part of the course is focused on financial crises.
TEACHING
The course is carried out as half-time studies and contains lectures and seminars. Results are presented in a home assignment and an essay. The students should also study independently.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through compulsory attendance at all seminars, a home assignment and an essay.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
