Students who successfully complete this course should be able to: - Account for theories on entrepreneurship - Account for the historical development of thoughts in the field of entrepreneurship - Criticize theories on entrepreneurship - Describe critical issues within the field of entrepreneurship and in relation to related theoretical fields - Define key concepts in the field of entrepreneurship - Describe the growth process of a venture - Describe and evaluate business opportunities in terms of opportunities and different types of risks - Create a business plan for a new venture and apply adequate theoretical perspectives in the creation of the business plan - Criticize business plans and understand problems inherent in the creation of a new venture. |

CONTENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The aim of the course is to deepen the student’s knowledge about the entrepreneurship field, from a theoretical as well as a more practical point of view. Students will learn about theories on entrepreneurship, and different theoretical fields will be applied in the creation of a business plan for a new venture. The course focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises and their growth potential. The course content is based on three submodules. First, industry and competitor analysis, and how to profile a venture in the marketplace by developing competitive advantages. Second, the company and its organization, including financial restrictions and opportunities and other factors that may support or restrict the company’s opportunities to grow. Third, characteristics of the entrepreneur and his role in developing the business. |

TEACHING | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Students will learn through lectures, seminars and team work. Participation in seminars and team work is mandatory. Students are responsible for their own learning process, and lectures provide perspectives on the course content, thus giving an opportunity for students to facilitate the process of structuring the course content. Students may have to prepare tasks and assignments for seminars and team work. Language of instructions: English |

The course content will be examined through mandatory participation in seminars and team work, and a written exam at the end of the course. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |

At least 60 ECTS Credits, i.e. two years of full-time undergraduate studies. At least 30 ECTS Credits in a discipline relevant to the course content. |
