| AIM OF THE COURSE |
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for scientific theoretical and methodological problems linked to the history of Christianity and other subject areas of religious studies,
- discuss research and studies in central parts of the subject area history of Christianity,
- independently formulate an issue in the history of Christianity and independently in an essay examine it by means of the theory and method traditions of the subject area, |
| CONTENTS |
The course consists of three modules with the following parts:
Module 1: Methods and Theories in Religious Studies, 7.5 HE credits
- theory and method traditions in different disciplines of religious studies
- the common theoretical issues of religious studies
Module 2: In-depth studies, 7.5 HE credits
- central work in the Christianity history with possibility also to focus on some of specialities
Module 3: Thesis, 15 HE credits
With a clear connection to the theory and method traditions of the subject area, a problem in the research field of the biblical subject area is formulated and examined independently. The results are presented in writing as an academic paper and defended at an essay seminar. |
| TEACHING |
| The teaching mainly takes the form of independent writing and literature studies. The studies will also be supported by teaching, in module 1 normally in the form of lectures and seminars, in module 2 in the form of supervised independent studies, in module 3 in the form of supervision, seminars and a presentation seminar. The students should also study independently. |
| EXAMINATION |
Module 1 is examined through assessment of written assignments that are covered in seminars, module 2 through oral or written examination, module 3 through defence of the essay at a seminar discussion, as well as a critical review of another essay.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |
| ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS |
At least a passing grade in Religious Studies - History of Christianity, Thesis, in-depth course 15 HE credits, or the equivalent. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies. |
| GRADING |
| A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course |
| CERTIFICATE |
| Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division. |
| COURSE LITERATURE |
| The course literature is decided upon by the department
in question. |
| OTHER INFORMATION |
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed. |
