AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- demonstrate familiarity with modern moral-philosophical discussion
- used advanced knowledge of problems and theories in one of the fields of practical philosophy,
- independently and in the form of an essay, cover a chosen problem in one of the fields of practical philosophy.
CONTENTS
Moral Philosophy, 7.5 HE credits
This module covers a modern moral-philosophical work that appears to be central to the current scientific discussion.

Essay Preparatory Literature Course, 7.5 HE credits
This module comprises literature studies that should provide background to the chosen topic. The literature is chosen in consultation with the supervisor.

Thesis, 15 HE credits
The topic is chosen in consultation with the supervisor. Writing an essay is an individual assignment on a chosen practical-philosophical problem or some chosen texts. The essay should contain a thesis statement, based on argumentation, in association with the problem or the text, and should demonstrate the student's ability to independently develop a philosophical argument.
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of seminars and individual supervision. The literature of the moral-philosophical course is covered at seminars, where the student is expected to participate actively with commenting review and discussion of the current text. The completed essays are also covered at the seminars. The student should function as a student reviewer at an occasion.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through oral review, assignments that are presented at the seminars and through ventilation of an essay.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Passing grade in Basic Course in Practical philosophy, 30 HE credits and completed Intermediate Course in Practical Philosophy, with at least 22.5 HE credits approved, or the equivalent.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
