AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to;
- account for the relations between central parts of contemporary moral-philosophical works, and critically discuss these by means of logical and argumentation analytical concepts as well as basic normative and meta-ethical concept formations and arguments,
- demonstrate detailed knowledge of a classical work and the problems that are actualised in it,
- account for central theories and problems in the field of social philosophy,
- demonstrate deeper or broadened knowledge of one of the practical philosophy fields outside moral philosophy
- in writing, develop a longer philosophical argument in the form of an academic essay that satisfies basic requirements for acrebi, language, structure and contents.
CONTENTS
Moral Philosophy, 7.5 HE credits
This module covers central work and theories of the moral-philosophical discussion of the 20th century. The studies focus on both value-theoretical questions and questions that concern normative ethical systems, mainly consequentialism.

Classics of Practical Philosophy, 7.5 HE credits
This module comprises in-depth studies of a central classical moral-philosophical work with support from qualified commentators.

Social Philosophy, 7.5 HE credits
In this module, the students should become familiar with positions and theories, mainly concerning social justice, that have been central to the discussion from the middle of the 20th century.

Elective Specialisation, 7.5 HE credits
In this module, the students focus on one of the practical philosophy fields outside moral philosophy. The studies may have the same specialisation as in the basic course in practical philosophy and thereby provide an opportunity for more in-depth studies of a field. Or, another specialisation can be chosen, to provide the student an opportunity to gain more broad knowledge. Information about the current choices are given before each course date.
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of lectures and seminars. The student is expected independently review and comment on different texts at seminars. The student should compile written reports, write a smaller essay and participate actively in the Internet discussion forum that has been established for the course.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through oral and written review. All parts include written assignments.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

For admission to the course, at least 22.5 HE credits from Basic Course in Practical Philosophy is required.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
