Instrumental Course, 7.5 HE credits Instrumentkurs In this module, the student is trained to use the analytical tools used in philosophy in reading of practical-philosophical texts. It also constitutes a general introduction to the subject, and to philosophical studies in general. Basic propositional logic is studied and exercised, as are basic methods and concepts of argumentation analysis. The argumentation analysis is focused on taking positions in normative questions. The History of Practical Philosophy, 7.5 HE credits Den praktiska filosofins historia In the course, the student's work should lead to gaining an overview of the history of philosophy with specific focus on an orientation in the history of moral philosophy. In parallel with the lectures, original texts are processed, generally in the form of the anthology excerpts in seminars. Moral Philosophy, 6 HE credits Moralfilosofi The work in this course consists of systematising the most common normative systems of morality, their basic assumptions and the description of their structure. The course also covers theories, values and norms from a meta-ethical perspective. Classics of Practical Philosophy, 3 HE credits Den praktiska filosofins klassiker In this course, the students should become familiar with some larger classical texts in practical philosophy. Specialization, 6 HE credits Specialisering The course focuses on one of the practical philosophy fields outside moral philosophy. TEACHING
The course work mainly consists of independent literature studies. In addition, teaching is given in the form of lectures, seminars and exercises, as well as discussion assignments on an Internet forum. Teacher-supervised exercises are intended to connect to the practical assignments that the student independently work with in addition to the reading. The seminar sessions are compulsory and in all cases imply work that should be carried out in advance. The discussion assignments are compulsory and intended to supplement other course parts by increasing the ability and the experience to express and discuss philosophical thoughts in writing.
EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The courses are examined through individual written examination, take-home examination, oral examination, active participation in the seminars and active participation in the discussion forum. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |
