AIM OF THE COURSE

- analyse and critically review Berlin's development and importance in a European and Western cultural context
- identify and describe a selection of buildings, works of art and institutions of the city
CONTENTS
The fate of the city of Berlin during the 20th century and the memories of war, division and reunification that still remains in the form of locations, buildings, monuments and museums make it one of Europe's more interesting big cities. Berlin is Germany's and Northern Europe's cultural centre, and is today perhaps also the most dynamic city when it comes to urban design and architecture in Europe. In Berlin, there are a large number of museums, art collections and galleries, and artists from all over the world, not least from the Nordic countries, are active in the city. In these circumstances, the course covers architecture, art and general culture that is associated with Berlin.
TEACHING
The working methods are student active and project-based. During one week of the course, teaching is offered on location in Berlin. In addition to this, the student is expected to study independently.
EXAMINATION
The projects are examined partly through seminars and partly through an individual written assignment. Detailed information about the form and contents of the examination can be found in the study guide for the course.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
