AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should be able to - demonstrate in-depth knowledge of current theoretical and methodological specialisations of comparative literature - problematise the individual knowledge of literary and cultural history - independently and from different perspectives, be able to analyse and interpret literary texts from different times - independently and with a critical approach, carry out a literary-critical study - with developed linguistic production and reasoning ability, be able to carry a literary-critical discussion.
CONTENTS
Module 1: Theoretical and Methodological Specialisation, 6 HE credits
This module constitutes an advanced study in theoretical and methodological specialisations in comparative literature, including applications to fictional material.

Module 2: Thematic or Historical Specialisation, 6 HE credits
This module constitutes an advanced study of a specific research field or problem area of comparative literature, or in a specific period, movement, theory or genre.

Module 3: The Art of Writing III, 3 HE credits
This module constitutes an advanced exercise in academic writing.

Module 4: Thesis, 15 HE credits
This module includes a compulsory seminar series, a thesis work and a critical review assignment.
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars, group work, oral and written practical assignments, independent thesis supervision, and requires the student to be well prepared through independent studies. Seminars, group work and practical assignments are compulsory.
EXAMINATION
The modules are examined separately through written examinations, take-home examinations and/or written and group assignments, and through active participation in compulsory parts. The examination of the thesis course includes a compulsory thesis work and a compulsory critical oral review assignment. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Passing grade in Comparative Literature 1 and completed Comparative Literature 2 with at least 24 HE credits approved (or the equivalent), including the essay.
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
