AIM OF THE COURSE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On completion of the course, the student should have command of the Swedish language equal to a completed level A2, and the beginning of B1, according to CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). On completion of the course, the student should be able to: • understand the main content of clearly spoken standard speech on well-known topics that one regularly comes across in working-life, at school and in one’s leisure time. • understand texts about everyday life, that consist of mainly high-frequency language • cope in most situations that may arise when travelling in Sweden or in other Swedish-speaking areas of the world • tie together phrases in a simple way to describe experiences and events, the student’s dreams, hopes and future plans • write simple, coherent texts about subjects that are well known or are of interest to the student in question. |

CONTENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Text Study of texts that are adapted to the course level and that are used as a basis for reading and listening comprehension exercises, for systematic vocabulary training and as a basis for oral and written tasks. Oral Comprehension Exercises in listening comprehension, pronunciation and oral communication Grammar and Written Proficiency Study of basic Swedish grammar, with a focus on syntax. Exercises in the writing of texts. |

TEACHING | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Teaching is given in the form of classes, seminars and exercises. To a great extent, the different parts are integrated. In addition to the instruction given, it is necessary to carry out individual studies. |

EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Examination consists of continuous assessment throughout the course, as well as of one oral exam and one written exam at the end of the course. Detailed information about examination is found in the study guide. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |

The course is aimed both at ERASMUS students and at other students here on an agreement with the Faculty of Arts and Sciences who have completed the course Swedish for Foreign Students, level A2, 7.5 ECTS or who have the same level of language knowledge of Swedish (level A2 according to CEFR/The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). |

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus. The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed. |
