AIM OF THE COURSE
On completion of the course, the student should
- demonstrate a level of written proficiency in the Swedish language that allows independently writing ordinary Swedish texts,
- have a level of oral proficiency that allows independent participation in different speech situations
- have advanced knowledge of the structure of the Swedish language,
- have sufficient knowledge of the expressive possibilities of the Swedish language and the function of its linguistic variations in different situations to be able to further develop of this knowledge and these skills independently.
CONTENTS
Oral Proficiency (7.5 HE credits)
Oral Proficiency includes the following:
- proficiency exercises in Swedish pronunciation and Swedish sentence intonation,
- exercises in presentation technique, argumentation technique and discussion contributions,
- listening comprehension exercises.

Written Proficiency (7.5 HE credits)
Written Proficiency includes the following:
- Swedish spelling and writing rules,
- grammar,
- vocabulary exercises and phraseology,
- own written production, such as summary, argumentative texts, reports and instructions.
TEACHING
The teaching takes the form of lectures, teaching sessions and seminars. The students must prepare for these lectures, teaching sessions and seminars. Attendance is compulsory in the course.
EXAMINATION
The course is examined through continuous oral and written tests and a written final examination.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The applicant should have a first language other than Swedish and satisfy the general entry requirements for higher education in Sweden, including approved knowledge in Swedish (SvB/Sv 2B or the equivalent, e.g. passed TISUS) and approved knowledge in English (English A or the equivalent).
GRADING
A grade of Pass with Credit, Pass or Fail is given for the course
CERTIFICATE
Course certificate is issued by the Faculty Board on request. The Department provides a special form which should be submitted to the Student Affairs Division.
COURSE LITERATURE
The course literature is decided upon by the department in question.
OTHER INFORMATION
Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
