AIM OF THE COURSE | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: - grammatical and phonetic fundamental concepts; - account for systematic grammatical and phonological differences and similarities between French and the Swedish; - express himself or herself both orally and in writing in different situations with a good vocabulary and without making systematic pronunciation and grammar errors; - demonstrate basic knowledge of French literature and discuss it in relation to a literary movement; - demonstrate basic knowledge of French social structure and of everyday life in France. |

CONTENTS | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course is organised in the form of four modules that are read in parallel under the course of the semester. The French Language Repetition of fundamental grammatical concepts. Systematic overview of French grammar with practical exercises and translation. Phraseology and synonymy. This module also contains fundamental phonetic concepts and necessary terminology and a systematic overview and training of the French phonological system and intonation patterns. Written production that involves exercise in producing own text in French. Cultural Studies Cultural studies imply studies of history, social situations and current questions in France. Furthermore, exercises are included in conversation and presentation technique that is based on reading of texts in different genres concerning culture and social situations. Literature Reading of modern literary text from both a literary and a linguistic view. Parts of the text volume are read intensively. A literary-historical overview is made in parallel with the works that are read. The course also contains conversational exercises. Thematic module This module is organised around a theme that may change from semester to semester. |

EXAMINATION | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The course is examined through written examination, oral examination, and oral and written presentation. The examination is an individual effort. Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination. Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades. |
